Interview with Natasha Collins, Marriage and Family Therapist in San Francisco, CA

8.) KP: In two sentences or less, what do you believe are the most important factors that contribute to the healing and change process in people?

Natasha: I really think that the ability to be open and reflect on one’s thoughts, behaviors and feelings is a major factor contributing to the healing and change process, as well as a belief that you have the ability to make change, the desire to make change, and a commitment to doing what it takes to implement that change.

KP: Sounds good, I’m in agreement! And it might sound like a simple answer, but for a lot of people starting the therapy process, taking that first step can feel intimidating.  A lot of people might feel discouraged about their ability to change or to create a change in their life.  You just touched on some of the key elements – that if people are open and willing to take the time to reflect, and are committed and motivated to trying new things, then that almost inevitably leads to positive change. I just want to be encouraging to people that while it does take time and effort, change is possible for everyone – whether it’s change on an internal or external level.
