Reflections on the Meaning of Love

Coffee: what’s love got to do with it?

I feel a little silly writing about coffee and love, so bear with me here – this post will deepen as you read further :-).

While I take pride in my ability to shun corporate marketing, I have to admit that I really liked the Starbucks Valentine’s Day cup this year (2012) that featured a big red heart, surrounded by arrows pointing to several sweet connotations of love.

Yes, it’s somewhat embarrassing to be inspired by something connected to the other green monster, but it’s a simple fact that I enjoyed not only my decaf mocha that day, but also the phrases found outside of the cup, noted below.

-motherly love
-first love
-sweet love
-brotherly love
-new love
-all my love
-love at first sight
-love always
-love you
-love forever
-lovebirds
-true love

-And, at the bottom of the Starbucks cup, in all caps and in summary, it stated: “CELEBRATE EVERYLOVE!”  How sweet, literally and figuratively!

The Starbucks Everylove page states: “Everylove is for all the relationships in your life worth celebrating.  It appears differently to each of us, but we all recognize it the same – by the flutter in our hearts and the smiles on our faces. It appears as a laughing friend, a helping hand, a familiar face.”  A sweet little paragraph indeed!  Check out Dan’s Everylove Story on YouTube, for a bit of coffee love inspiration.

**Footnote:  For the record, it should be noted that when it comes to straight up drip, I’m more of a Philz or Peet’s kind of gal, but Starbucks makes my favorite decaf mocha…and I’ve tried many.  Plus, you have to give them kudos for standing up for gay marriage in Washington State – another connection between coffee and love!

Ok, let’s move away from the substance of coffee, to the more substantial parts of this post, starting with my favorite, Unconditional Love.
